Tax Associate

Job Summary: In short, you'll be responsible for tax notice research and response, income tax return preparation for individuals using Intuit's Lacerte Tax software, along with the preparation of miscellaneous tax filings (sales & use tax, local city tax, etc.).

Job Location: In-office, hybrid, or fully remote opportunities are available.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with clients to obtain personal information regarding potential deductions, educational grants or allowances

  • Inform clients of important paperwork and documentation needed to complete tax forms properly

  • Attend continuing education courses to remain aware of changes to forms and new standards for completing tax paperwork

  • Properly research and seek the advice of senior preparers when confronted with particularly challenging tax circumstances

Depending on your current skills and desired professional growth, your responsibilities may also begin to include:

  • Preparation of client accounting

  • Meet with clients and address their questions and concerns regarding tax forms and paperwork

  • Preparation of other types of income tax returns (S- and C-Corp, Partnership, etc.)

Compensation

Starting at $35.00 / hour for unlicensed (non-EA or CPA) candidates.

*Considerably higher starting compensation for active EA or CPA licensees!

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Three years of experience in a tax office

  • Knowledge of tax laws, tax concepts and familiarity with form 1040 and schedules

  • Ability to use standard computer software applications

  • Strong customer service skills with ability to empathize and instill confidence

  • Experience in troubleshooting common tax program problems

  • Strong research skills and the ability to quickly use online resources to find answers

  • Ability to prioritize daily tasks and meet timely obligations with many clients

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, accounting or tax

  • Tax preparer designation: EA or CPA*

  • Experience consulting tax handbooks or other printed materials to determine the proper procedure for preparing challenging returns

  • Working knowledge of Intuit's Lacerte Tax software

  • Working knowledge of Intuit's QuickBooks suite
